“Beyond Borders”

I was reading a book yesterday which talked about nationalism and its consequences. The 300 page book is well written and poses questions beyong imagination for a thinker. I am one of those thinkers who believe in rationalism. I wish to get into the groove of the matter which makes me to do some homework all the time. Tiring though 
When we talk of nationalism, then I must say it has powers beyond imagination. It can change a common man into Adolf Hitler, a thinker like Bhagat Singh into an armed activist, Mohan das Gandhi into Mahatma. There are hundreds of examples which has its positives and negatives but one thing is common in all of them, NATIONALISM..
Amazingly denegraded, unnoticed power of all time, this has turned Germany into Phoenix, United States into the most powerful state of the world, Japan into fearsome fighter nation and India into one nation (after having history of a divided states, 100 of them fighting for pity awkward self esteem).
When I talk about a nation, the most important thing that comes to my mind is the BORDER which defines a nation. For example, India a nation of huge border, comprising of land and sea border. Russian empire had the longest border in the world. Border is something which depicts the might of a nation, its strength, its vulnerability. For example, when we talk about United States, it has the strongest economy, army, and lavish lifestyle but when it comes to border, most notorios border is shared with Mexico, a porous border which is blessed with narcotics trade across the lines.
Today Border is something which claims most attention in nation’s international, domestic policies. It carries the burden of entire defence allocation just to save the border. For example, Pakistan allocates 25% of its total budget to defence whereas India allocates somewhere near to 4%. Thus a border is always in lime light in a nation.
But was the story same in old days?
When a Chinese scholar came in India, he found no soldiers at the border in Shangri La pass in Tibet, he was surprised. He asked a noble man in the Indian subcontinent about the incident that he found no men at the border, at the pass and whomever he found, people just greeted and served food but dint enquired about him, his motives, his nationality.
“Welcome to land of knowledge, please learn goodness of this land and spread it across the lines that you call border” was the answer from the noble man.
This small incident depicts a great historical heritage of India which taught about borderless world. There is no doubt the fact that first University was started in India, it means that the concept of universal education, culture, life was well in place in the world of great gangatic plains. This land always believed in Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam !!
But when the time travels thousand years & reaches 2011 then the borderless world is criss crossed by imaginary lines beyond which armies are at place to kill at sight. This is the time when Border is a sensitive word. The moment I think of it, many things comes to mind like Indo-Pak border, Indo-China border.
In the aftermath of Bin Laden’s killings, this is the time when Pakistan is pushing its troops at the borders with India and China pulling its belts tight to threaten indo-china border at arunachal pradesh.
I was sipping my cup of tea and thinking “can the world, again be a borderless geography”?
Its feels good, but only if you can push ur brains to imagine about borderless world !!!!

power gone : Jyoti babu

Saturday. time: 7:30 pm venue: a very old architecture with red bricks and wooden chairs along with Teak-tables, a waiter in posh-white outfit reminding me of British era, this place is "Coffee House" in the Civil lines area of Allahabad city. . Over the corner table on my left there were two oldies sitting, not just sitting though, but sipping there coffee. complete silence, a pin-drop per say. only the crumble sound of news-paper, if at all turned. both oldies very so carried away with that news-paper article that they forgot the world around them. sudden electricity fails, one of the two said, Jyoti Babu chole geche !!!! and there was big laugh all around,,,,, i was perplexed what electricity has to do with Jyoti babu?? i asked the gentleman what he meant by that? he offered me a chair and ordered a cup of coffee for me as well. he told me that both are Bengolis and they were part of Communist movement in the late sixties and late seventies whi...

poverty Vs Pragati..............Maharashtra lost the road??

hi friends, i am in mumbai now and certainly i am in the biggest slums in the world...........here people are robots,,,,,running, pushing, slazing .....all sorts of acts and mis-acts are happening here. on one side a pluffy, plush society is there which is having much more than required for their life................on the other there are people who are struggling for making ends meet. i saw on one side people are enjoying the DAY LIGHT at 10PM in sports stadiums (DY Patil stadium) and i found peeple in Parel who are struggling to see some sun light in their slums, chawls in the absense of electricity. the question is not about the diffrerence and the absurd distribution of wealth....but the question is against the civic society which is having plentiful of educated social workers who hail from high society and they do their work just to add up a new feather in the cap.....if i use the banking language, they diversify themselves from just party animals to social workers. anoth...
